Steady As We Go by Dave Matthews Band

It would not be one of my mix tapes without some Dave Matthews Band, so why not start it off right? From the time Mike and I started dating in 2009, we have seen DMB live at least once each year. But 2020 had other plans. Thankfully, Dave provided multiple opportunities to watch him “live from home” this year, so it wasn’t a total bust.

Anyway… This is a love song that has spoken to our relationship time and time again. Before going into our first appointment with our infertility doctor, I remember having an especially important conversation in the car. We said that no matter what the outcome, we were not going to let that get in the way of our relationship with one another. There was not going to be any blaming if it was on one end or another (or both). We are in this together. And God will carry us through. God never promised we wouldn’t have trouble, but in Him we can have peace (John 16:33).

Now with the fostering process, we are leaning into God for that peace again… The process to become licensed has been full of struggles of its own (thanks, COVID, for making it even more difficult). But, I am extremely happy to announce that we are officially licensed now and awaiting that first call! They say a watched pot never boils, so does that mean a watched phone never rings? Due to the current state of everything we were told to expect our first call within the next couple weeks. We know the road is going to be rocky, but there is also going to be so much good.
